I first heard these guys in 80 or 81, already a firm Motorhead fan at the time. Here's a question... I can't find anything from Rtattoo anywhere here in the US...does anyone know where I can pick up the first album, or a re-release of it on CD? My casse te died over 10 years ago, and I haven't found another debut album. If you have any tips on getting it, please email me. thanks.

Great to find the Tatts after all these years. Don't hear much in the UK. Big influence on me and my music (now with The Rhythm Bandits), hence descrition of my vocals on the website. I'm gonna have a good look around, but on progress so far this looks like a great site. Cheers, Bad Bob Bates

Fantastic site, love the interviews. I became aware of the Tatts in the late 70s with appearences on Countdown and Sounds Unlimited. They scared the crap out of me - I was 14 in 78 - but I was hooked. Radio 2SM also played Bad Boy a bit - does anyone remember how fantastic heavy rock sounded on a portable AM radio ? I first saw them live in 1980 supporting Black Sabbath at the Capitol in Sydney. Next was probably '5 bands for 5 bucks' at the Hordern with Jimmy and the Boys, Mi-sex,Swingers and the Church ! The most memorable was in about 82 (?) when they were supported by Sunnyboys and Choirboys at the Hordern after returning triumphant from the UK. 'The Boys Night Out' I think it billed. It was memorable because a few songs into the set, a fight broke out. Angry stopped the band and screamed at the perpetrators 'If you wanna fucking fight at my gig, come up here and fight me !'. Part of the gig was broadcast later by 2JJJ, so I've got a tape somewhere of the memories. The last time I saw the band was a year or two after that when they played a secret (ha!) gig at the Bondi Astra as Buster Hymen and the Penetrators. Over the next couple of years I followed the members through various bands. Illustrated Man at the New York tavern in Sydney, Headhunters at the Bondi Royal, Pete Wells jamming on bass with Heaven at the Bondi Astra, and Slightly Shadey several times at the Bondi Tram. Pete Wells was living at Bondi at the time, and I spoke to him on one occassion about Buffalo - he was suprised that there was still interest in the band. This was when you could find albums cheap - $3 for Dead Forever, anyone ? Thanks to Guns'n'Roses, the interest in the band picked up over the last 10 years, but bands like them don't carry an ounce of the integrity and conviction that Rose Tattoo have in their music. Rose Tattoo are the best heavy rock

Yes sir, Rose Tattoo, the greatest rock n' roll band on any planet anywhere. I've had the distinct honour of writing the liner notes for two versions of the mighty Tatt's Nice Boys compilation CD that was released here in Australia, the most recent "offic al" bio that's on this here hell of a site, bios for Angry and Peter Wells respectively and assorted other bits and pieces. I've seen and interviewed the band on countless occasions over the years. I also had the associated honour of writing the liner not s for the AC/DC box set, Bonfire. To cut to the chase for the last few years I've been piecing together a book on the Tatts. If you've got any tales to tell or specific memories you want to share in print drop me a line.

Well. Here's a review by someone who's seen the tatts nearly 50 odd times in his life and who couldn't help but see them one more time again. Venue : Labour Club - Belconnen, ACT - 11 August 1998 Large auditorium with big dance floor below the stage and area at same level as the stage around the edges. I'm telling you this because the sound engineer couldn't get the mix right for the tatts first three songs. The Tatts performance - brutal best sums it up. They were louder than ever - great - and played as if they were really enjoying it. The friend I went with who had never seen them live reckoned the Angels were a "pop" band alongside the Tatts. Highlight were Remedy, Astra Wally, Tramp, the Butcher and of course Nice Boys. The set was primarily the first album (without TV) and some of the second album. Only disappointment - no Snow Queen - would have thought Snowie would have been rolled out with Ian laying in the band. It was good to see Ian Rilen with the band. I always thought Ian and Lobby Lloyd were the two great Tatts bass guitarists. Ian played menacing bass. Mick Cocks was a rythmical as ever - what a great sound he gets. My great disappointment was that he d dn't play his trademark black Les Paul with the gold pick-ups. I suspect it's been worn out by now but that guitar defined the thick sound of the early Tatts. Pete was splendid as ever and deserved better from the sound mixer. No trademark red speaker b x and different guitars these days. Pete playing a strat!!!!!! In the end I gave up and went down and stood near the mixing desk. Angry came through loud and clear on some songs but also suffered at the hands of the mixer on a few others. A couple of comments on older times - the Hordern Pavillion gig in 1982 was great but the Tatts at the Tivoli in Sydney in January 1983 were awesome. Never played or sounded better than that night. Other awesome gigs - the Fairfield Hotel in 1979 - $4 bucks to get in and the stage was the same level as the bar (ie no stage) - the band - Angry, Pete, Lobby and Digger. A great set with an encore of Nice Boys with a group of us standing literally a metre in front of Angry. I'll never forget it. I love this band. Here's to a great night tonite at Selina's. Dale

Hello from Renton, WA., U.S.A. What to say? Gee, sometimes I wish I lived over there so I could buy the actual CDs, as my LP records are somewhat worn....much less have had a chance to see the band play live. I've been a Rose Tattoo fan since I picked up their first Australian LP at a local Seattle import record shop, probably in 1977 or '78. I bought it because it was Australian, was produced by AC/DC's producers (AC/DC was an unknown band over here at th time -- but I'd bought their first LP in 1976 after hearing 'Live Wire' played on Radio Australia between news features or something)...the shop owner let me have a listen before buying and I figured, well it definitely rocks! So I bought it. The first thing that struck me about the band was Michael Cocks' rhythm guitar playing. He is probably the best rock rhythm guitarist in the world. The second thing that struck me about the band was Angry Anderson's writing -- the stories, and a mast ry of the English language that transcends the 'biker' image. This guy could definitely write! And it was obvious to me that he had lived a life that wasn't far removed from the one described in his lyrics. Besides, anybody that can write a song knocki g television is a-o.k. in my book! Rose Tattoo had three LP's released in the U.S., but they got zilch airplay -- although one station in the Tri-Cities in Eastern Washington played The Butcher and Fast Eddie a few times. A friend of mine, whom I'd turned on to Rose Tattoo, and who li ed over there, called me long distance, and said "you won't believe THIS!" and held the phone up to his FM radio. It was hard to believe, Rose Tattoo on American radio! But there it was. But they got no airplay in Seattle, or anywhere else that I'm aw re of... Now it's nearly 20 years later and I still play the records every now and then, partly out of nostalgia, and partly because there isn't anything new out there that shares that punch and vitality. Peter Wells' CD (the one with Rock and Roll Outlaw and From the Saddle to The Ground) came out over here and I got myself a copy. But I've always wondered what happened to the rest of the guys in the band. As a lark, I did a search on 'rose tattoo' on the WWWeb, and here we are. I guess the internet is goo for something, after all! I've been playing and writing music on my own for twenty years, and Rose Tattoo's music has influenced mine to some degree -- they had a drive, a bite, a boogie beat with a one-two punch that Americans have never really gotten into, for some reason, bu I'd always thrived on. It sounds great and it's fun to play. I don't have a band, I do my music by myself (guitar, bass, drums), and many of my songs have that feel because I grew up with that sound. I sometimes sing my own stuff at a local karaoke bar, and what's strange is the audience -- and in a karaoke bar you get all types of people -- will respond quite positively to the songs that share Rose Tattoo's characteristics. They actually like th t stomp boogie, and driving rhythm guitars. It's funny that some of these people respond to it now, but they didn't buy the records when the originators of that sound were available on record over here. Some things I'll just never understand.... Well, I'd like to finish this by saying hello to everybody, and thank you for the website. It's nice to see there are other fans of Rose Tattoo out there! I keep looking in the import bins of the local record chains to see if Rose Tattoo CDs ever sh w up, but they never do....I'm going to have to take damn good care of my LP's, I guess, or transfer them over to CDR so they don't wear out.... Once more, thanks for the cool website, and rock on, everybody. Rock and roll isn't dead, not yet, anyway. CBC

First album was Scarred, and then I met Angry. I have known the bloke for about 9 - 10 years know. Interviewed him for pubs I was working on and met him during the recording of "Blood from Stone" in LA. One of the greatest and most understated (not hei ht) people on the face of the earth. RT are one of the greatest bands in the history of RNR. In fact, being from the States, my 3 favorite bands of all time are AC/DC, Angels, and Rose Tattoo. Makes me think that there is something in the water down un er.

I saw RT here in Huntington, WV -USA in November of 1982. I'd been a fan since 1978 when I bought their album on import downtown. Of course, it was a dream come true to see them live. They blew the house down, and Angry was so excited with the fan response that he lost it and beat himself in the head with the microphone until he drew blood. Needless to say, Pat Travers didn't real y do too bad. I was happy to see him with bassist, Mars Cowling. But Aerosmith, being that they were at their lowest point, came on over an hour late The crowd was fairly impatient, and the band gave a drug induced, lackluster performance ., captured on -D video, for the first time in rock history. Most people don't know this, and I've been all over the Aerosmith sites trying to find documentation. But I do still have the promo from the newspaper, which has an article on Rose Tattoo.Drop me a line at 22 Green Oak Drive - Huntington, West Virginia - USA 25705 and I can either send you a copy of the article or, if I get a big response, I'll find a way to get it on this web-site. Presently, I don't own a computer....

Man-This is so amazing to see a Rose Tattoo page...I've been jamming this band since early 86', some Philly skins turned me on to them. I acually called 'Brashes' in Sydney to buy the first three tapes in 88'...(I couldn't find them here!) I will now be p rchasing all the cd's. Anyway, I always wanted to know the connection between Tatts and Gunners? Did G and R rip off Nice Boys or what? I didn't see any credits to Rose Tattoo on the Lies album...Personally, I think G and R ripped off thier entire sound f om Rose Tattoo....like Paridise City sounds alot like Suicide City. Guns and ROSES,ROSE Tattoo..so on so on. Maybe someone could end this conflict for me-this has been the main reason for my dislike of Guns and Roses. That and I can't take Axel's voice. Very impressive page by the way. -Phil

It's been a while since I posted here. Just wanted to say, I still love the Tatts to this day. I bought the first album the first day it was out in Toronto. At that time, I was a roadie and very much aware of the reputation that preceded Rose Tattoo.

Recently, I got a hold of the Boggo Road Video from 92 and it is one of the best concerts bar none I have ever heard from anyone anywhere. Cheers Tatt's, reunite again and do a North American tour!!!

First saw the Tatts in 1978(?) at a local all ages show. Pete Wells torturing a black Gibson with an omnipresent fag hanging out of his mouth changed my life. If it aint loud it ain't worth listening to. Fave show: Illustrated Men at Strawberry Hills Hotel 1985. (Tatts - Angry + Ian Rilan) So much sound so little room!!!

A great surf down memory lane. When I first started getting into the net I searched in vain for a Tatts site. So I started to make some noise out in cyberspace to try and write the wrong. Some years later its great to see that some one has really done the Tatt's justice and tried to set the record straight as to who really were the business in live Rock 'N' Roll back when corporate suits didn't have any fucking idea what the term "kicking arse" meant.

Saw tatts open for Aerosmith in Dallas, Texas in 1982 (only time I saw them) Angry and crew fucking well rocked an uncomprehending audience. Angry stage banter included such pearls as "Most bands write songs about getting pussy...we write songs about NOT getting pussy." and "there is no glory in dying young; the real glory is living on." They have inspired me and my music immensely. Thanks for the great music !

hardest rocking band in the world among chisels and angels. I´d love to see tatts gig up here in scandinavia, particulary in Finland where I live in. You do have some quite religious following round here. I´m just a family man raisin´me kids, not a biker hose seems to like your "music" the most in scandinavia, but certainly I recognize the sound which starts to raise fists and stomp feet. Me and my frieds have listened to you ´bout 15 years and I have to confess:good things they last.Rose Tattoo is also a good background music for boozing what we used to do more often some ten years ago. Just how many times we sang in a choir "Freedoms flame, burns so bright..." What else can I say but THANKS and CHEERS! See ya!
